We were invited to the annual event of CODAU 2024 (Conference of General Directors and University Administrations) this year dedicated entirely to the themes of Artificial Intelligence
The conference entitled: ‘The University of the Future, between humanism, artificial intelligence and data governance’ was held at the University of Florence from 19 to 21 September 2024. Our speech has been within the parallel session of the second day on the theme: ‘Artificial Intelligence and Human Intelligence. Challenges and opportunities’ together with other university suppliers.
Sandro cacciamani introduced by outlining the scenario of the AI supply chain, seen from the perspective of technology providers
1) On top there are the Big Tech Providers, which are the large providers of generative AI (Open AI, Google, Mistral, IGenius,…). ‘Agnostic’ from the point of view of the domain
2) Then in an intermediate layer there are the Platform Providers, which are those who build platforms that make use of BIG models, but make them available within platforms that enable other services (e.g. Plugins of different LLM models, Interfaces for content governance,…)
2) Finally, there are the Domain Experts and System Integrators, who select these platforms and set them up for a specific domain (in the specific case of university processes, for example) and adapt and work with organisations (universities) to design services that take account of requirements
Ex Machina italia is definitely in this third group and offers to support organisations in implementing AI-based solutions for teaching and university administrative processes, on which it has expertise built up over many years.
