AIRAS (Artificial Intelligence Risk Assessment System) is now finally available: we are turning to the Region’s municipalities to further test it with the conviction that the final recipients of the application can make a definitive contribution to its use.
AIRAS, as already mentioned in the launch news, aims to become an innovative decision support system for the management of meteo-hydro-geological events. Currently in the Beta phase, AIRAS is already undergoing pilot testing with some Italian municipalities and administrations, particularly in Piedmont.
Developed with the support of CINECA, the Bologna-based excellence for high-performance computing, AIRAS harnesses the computational power required to combine generative AI, deep reasoning, historical documentation (such as post-event reports and ordinances) and certified spatial data. Each municipality or authority involved receives customised recommendations tailored to its emergency plans, local regulations and real-time information flows.
In a recent case study, AIRAS analysed in a few minutes the impact of an event predicted by a hydrogeological alert bulletin on a built-up area, automatically comparing historical data, official documentation and Civil Protection procedures. The system then provided targeted operational indications, supported by interactive and georeferenced maps, which updated intervention priorities in real time.
Based on Ex Machina’s proprietary COSMO 42 framework, AIRAS guarantees full adaptability to local regulations and interoperability with systems already in use.
Ex Machina Italia launches an appeal to the municipalities of Emilia-Romagna: we are looking for local administrations interested in experimenting AIRAS on their territory and contribute to the development of a technology that can make a difference in risk management and community protection.
